More women are repairing their own cars

Recently, a survey made by chinasinoy.net, an OBD2 tool wholesaler website, shows that more and more women are picking up tool kits to do their own auto repairs now. Data from the website shows that among do-it-yourself auto repairs, the percentage of women doing the work was 45% in 2013, an increase of 15% from that in 1994.

A staff with the website told the reporter that there is an increasing trend of women buying their own car diagnostic tools to tackle auto problems. "In 2005, most of our customers are male, but data in last year reveals that today 3 out of 10 customers of chinasinoy are women."

Today, the gender wars have been expanded to wider areas into automotive repair industry. "Women repair their vehicles mainly because it can save time and money. Besides, we can also gain pride of ownership and sense of achievement," says a female DIY-er who refused to give her name.

Another female DIY-er Claire said that they rely on their vehicles to get to work, to pick up kids from school and to run errands, and therefore it is necessary for them to learn mechanics and fix small problems as much as possible. "I prefer to carry an OBD2 scanner, such as Toyota MVCI in my rear, so that I can have a good knowledge what my vehicle is up to when I sense something weird."

Like Claire, most of the female OBD2 tool users also have their preference. 32% of them buy the tool recommended by their friends, 15% just buy a random one to give a shot and the rest usually inquiry customer service.
